disenchanted

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

So, 19 years into my career and I am disappointed and becoming very burned out.
Our superintendant and his cohorts are running us into the ground with paperwork, meetings and negative focus. We are teaching to the test, disregarding the whole child completely, and our parents have never been more suspicious of us.

I am in search of a new career. it saddens me further that it will take going back to school for awhile, while still trying to do all of the afore mentioned.

Guess what this makes me want to do, folks? You got, eat and drink.
I am so tired when I get home, exercise seems like a cruel joke.
I don't know what to do.

Focus what little energy you have at the end of the day on some sort of exercise (a walk, use your treadmill, go to a nearby gym or dance class) and you will find a much needed lifting of your spirits. Your not alone in your feelings and it is very sad, but don't let it beat you up and get you down in your personal life as well. There's a rainbow out there somewhere if you will just look for it! Hang in there! emoticon

Thank you everyone. I appreciate your comments and well wishes, more than you know.
I know that my world is changing and I need to figure out the next step, instead of spiraling downward with old, self-deprecating bad habits.

I am really going to make a more concerted effort to exercise and "me list".

    Thanks again!

Teaching is for saints...in my opinion! No matter what happens you just cannot eat over it, cuz that definitely will not help. Comfort foods are "drugs" and you do not want to "use" and feed the addiction (it IS as dire as it sounds!...for some more than others)

Polyannaish...but potential..."If you don't like something change it, if you can't change it, change the way you think about it" Mary Engelbreit

You are already considering a new path...go for it...just DON"T GIVE UP and eat over it!!!

I hear the same thing from a niece and a couple friends who teach. It is sad that this is what has happened to schools. The best teachers get burned out and move on. I hope you find something rewarding!

emoticon it's really sad when the system doesn't think of the child. Teachers are to busy as you put it doing paperwork and in general things that don't deal with teaching. Hope that you can find a happy spot to continue doing what you spent years studying. emoticon emoticon hoping you can do a few exercise might release some stress emoticon Judy

The endorphins from exercise will help counteract that stress. I completely understand your frustration. I took my daughter out of public school five years ago specifically for the reasons you mentioned. The teachers just aren't allowed to teach the children. Have you considered looking at a different institution?
