A day in the life

Sunday, November 11, 2012

Since the in-laws are taking the other child and her family to Florida for Thanksgiving they decided to take us to a movie. I saw my first James Bond movie. It was pretty good, kinda reminded me of MacGyver. The only problem I had was one of the previews before the movie. I don't remember the name, but I think it's a new one by Quentin Terantino. Anyway it's a very bloody movie about a black man very happily shooting white men, there was even a line from the main character talking about killing white men. Ok, some people like blood and gore, but my issue is that if it were a white man happily killing black men it would be racist and not allowed. Since it's a black man killing whites it's okay. Just like it's okay to be against Christians. In a time of political correctness it's ok to be prejudiced if you're against whites and/or Christians. Put me in a bad mood.

My husband had to come to my rescue when I got the lid stuck on my omelet pan. Don't know how it happened and he wanted to just toss the whole mess. I explained that it was my omelet pan and apparently his love of omelets took over. He had to break the lid, but we saved the pan.

I found a recipe for a gluten free stuffing and pumpkin pie to go along with the GF green bean casserole. I'm starting to get ready for the holidays to be here. I just need to start making a list so I can go shopping next weekend.

Growing up in a crafting family I guess I take a lot of it for granted. I have people at work offering to pay me to make them hats and slippers. It's strange being in a culture where there aren't a lot of people who knit or crochet after living in a town where I hung out with needle crafting ladies every week. At least it will keep my hands busy.

I don't think movies are meant as political commentary. There are plenty of movies with people of all races and religions killing each other. It's meant as entertainment, but it does offend some. Being completely politically correct is impossible, as there will always be someone getting offended. In some countries they eat animals others consider pets, so having a pet dog in one movie will be offensive to some while having someone eat dog meat in another will be offensive to others. That's the consequences of having such an overly connected world. When we find something offensive we can fight it or ignore it. In this case, fighting a movie won't do much good, so ignore it. There are much worse things out there.

I hope your new GF recipes will help you enjoy the holidays. I'd recommend trying them once before the big day, but there isn't much time. So if you can cut the recipe down to make a smaller serving, that will help you iron out any kinks ahead of time. Otherwise, make sure you have help on hand should anything strange happen.

Unfortunately, some people aren't coordinated or creative enough for crafting. Others aren't intersted. Many don't have time. Being willing to make things for others is wonderful, and a way to show others you care.
