Successful Fall Challenge (A photo Journal)

Friday, November 30, 2012

If only I could blog in smaller segments -- I'll understand if you simply scan this one quickly. I’m happy to be in three challenges: 1) wrapping up Week 8 of 8 in the 5% Fall Challenge with what may be a maintenance weight loss nearing the desired 5%, 2) two thirds through the Jingle Bell Challenge with the Christians with 100 Pounds to Lose team, and 3) greatly exceeding my fitness minute goals for the Christians Maintaining Weight Loss team.

I can confidently report that my Spark Program Goals for Faith, Family, Friends, Food, Fitness and Fun have been met. I’ve gotten a bit sloppier with staying within the recommended nutritional ranges, but I’m beginning to make great progress again. In the meantime, here’s how I met some of those goals through the lens of my camera . . . I most love how they all begin to blend together in achieving balance:

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting the effervescent, artist extraordinaire Bobbi (FloridaSun) in her consignment store in SW Florida. What an incredible ray of sunshine she brings to the people who enter her wonderfully eclectic and aesthetic world of superb furnishings – she has such a great eye.

At Bobbi's shoppe, I blessed my home with the works of two artisans 1) Three of Bobbi’s very own (copyrighted) creations "Loop De Loo" ankle bracelets, one of which she gifted me (thank you, thank you, thank you!) 2) a limited edition, signed and numbered watercolor by Art LaMay which I call: Natural Beauties (Two Great Blue Herons) amidst White Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) flowers (reminiscent of a dogwood flower with an extra petal). SO HAPPY! Thanks, Bobbi! – You’re a true gem and a most beautiful Teddy Bear!

My alma mater and the World Student Association hosted their
signature event of the year: Cultural Night. This year’s production was fabulous and ended with our Korean friends performing Gangnam Style -- Our very own Psy was in the house! -- So Cool!

Here’s my favorite photo for fall this year on a small country road opposite the rock sign to Oulu, Wisconsin.

I’ve nearly completed three prayer shawls, and expect to have two lap robes to turn in to my Florida church by Tuesday.

Having a fun with a college student at a church Harvest Home Dinner.

Enjoying a baking Night for the next day’s International Night where a group of people sponsor a free meal and Christian program and fellowship. Can you tell I love these kids?

I’ve developed some loving friendships with Salem Baptist’s monthly program; Saron Lutheran’s annual Birthday Party at a nearby nursing facility, and women’s weekly bible studies and birthday parties in both Wisconsin and Florida. Cousin Carol (gold sweater) accompanies my Dad (creamy white linen jacket), while Cousin Tom (suspenders) sang to help celebrate my Dad’s birthday.

Since my last writing, found at many opportunities to spend time with my Dad . . . a lot of doctors, good food and a visit to the Twin Cities to visit a very dear Sri Lankan family!

I so enjoy visiting the great bodies of water: Lake Superior, Amnicon Falls, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caloosahatchee River.

“And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be collected into one place [of standing], and let the dry land appear. And it was so.” (Genesis 1:9)

The crop of squash was plentiful and I must have baked and frozen about six cookie sheets full. We ate up the ones above with cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pat of butter. I roasted about 10 lbs of red potatoes and hard boiled over 60 eggs for the International Night curry.

Other fun photos (great places for fitness):

Ann Marie and I enjoy the photo ops at The Shell Factory at North Ft Myers.

Judy and I enjoy Ivy’s first solo exhibition, Naamijig: Honoring Our Tradition enjoying the beautiful Pow Wows she has captured.

“Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with stringed and wind instruments or flutes!” (Psalm 150:4)

The deer don’t seem to be bothered much by my cousin in the back yard]

Cousin and I in the same coffee shoppe visited by one of our presidential candidates a week earlier, followed by a breakfast at Tak for Maten (Norwegian restaurant), and with friends at the Vietnamese Restaurant.

We drive to SW Florida three times a year and then enjoy a flight for other travel opportunities.

As the 5% Challenge teams visit the Taj Mahal in Week Six, I'm reminded of my three-week, summertime visit in India, the beautiful people, diverse modes of transportation (rickshaw, tuk-tuk, moped, and camel), and all the fabulous colors found in selecting my new salwar suits! The last photo is of Itmad-ud-Daulah’s tomb, which is looked upon as an imminent precursor of the Taj Mahal as far as elaborate carvings and inlay work are concerned -- more beautiful symmetry!

“Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” (1 Chronicles 29:11)

Looking forward to leaving 2012 in style and joining the Winter 5% challenge where I hope to be enjoying more great fitness minutes around Lake Superior, SW Florida, and the Sacramento California area. Stay the course in healthy living because your body, mind, and soul deserve it!

Oh Evelyn..my apologies for arriving at this spectacular blog a little later than I intended! You are a model supreme sporting my 'Loop De Loo' anklet. It looks absolutely BEAUTEOUS on your fetching ankle. Love the pose...just LOVE it! emoticon emoticon I'm SO happy you are enjoying the beautiful egrets...they are awe inspiring are they not? I hope every time you pass by them you think of the gallery and the FUN we had that day! You were so patient and so kind when customers interrupted our visit! But weren't they GOOD sports to take our photo op pics? Some of my customers are fantastical...they make up for the poopie ones...big smile!

I just LOVED your pictures..they are amazing and you radiate that inner love and beauty in EACH and every one!

Your father looks like the happiest little guy on planet earth...he has an amazing daughter and I LOVE that you include him and your cousin in everything...just amazing and so kind!

The kids are brilliant...I'm so happy that you are able to influence and guide them...they have a wonderful friend and mentor in you...they are blessed and so are you for having that beauty all around you.

Hugs, hugs, and MORE hugs...I cherished our day together and know that we will have more opportunities to share time together after season quiets down.

I'm rarin' to go on my NYC trip...coming up soon on the 15th. I'm really researching all that I need to know on 'The save our home' fight. I've come to the conclusion that the Independent Foreclosure Review is just another puff piece that has no teeth. It actually shoots the complaint back into the arms of the perp who has done nothing to help anyone all along. The real bait and switch is that the decision on this review is FINAL...so it gets the servicer off the hook and leaves the homeowner with no rights...what kind of Independent is THAT?

Soooo I'm going the path that I originally thought I should go and that is putting my faith into our little fighter extraordinare...Ms. Elizabeth Warren the newly elected senator from MA. I'll file my claim with the Consumer Protection Bureau but cc her a copy as well. I'm planning on video taping all the EXTENSIVE files that cover our entire banquet size table top to show her the efforts we have put forth with no relief or even the inkling of fair play. It's pretty powerful when you see all those files stacked up together out of the tote bags that have housed them.

I'm THRILLED that she will be on the powerful banking committee...let the big wigs of Wall street cower! It's all good...and it might FINALLY be a fair playing board for the beleaguered and hood winked homeowner now that Ms. Elizabeth is on the beat!

I hope she uses us as her poster child...I'd LOVE to go to Washington and give them a piece of my mind! ROAR! emoticon emoticon emoticon
