Back to normal...

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

So many changes lately. Our son was born six weeks ago, and he is AWESOME. He's a really easy baby so far and a great sleeper. He woke up only once last night, and that's about average for him. So different from my daughter, who woke up 3 or 4 time a night until she was about 8 or 9 months old. Here's a picture of him, isn't he cute?!

And I can't post a picture of him without posting one of my daughter too. I'm so proud of her, she amazes me every day.

My wife joined Spark last week, her username is HILLARYLANE, stop by her page and welcome her to SparkPeople! We're done having kids now and she's ready to take off the pregnancy weight. Our original plan was to start fresh on SP in January. But she decided she was ready to start now! No use throwing away the entire month just because it's hard to eat well around Christmas. So proud of her, she is rocking it so far.

I had six weeks paternity leave at home with the family, awesome, huh? It came and went so fast though, and now I'm back at work and missing my family SO MUCH. So far the transition has been good, my wife is doing great with both kids at home, and it is nice to get back to our normal routine.

OK, confession time. I gained weight after the new baby was born. I got down to 186 and started trying to maintain in the weeks before he was born. Then he came and I started eating like crap. Lots of junk food, halloween candy, fast food, larger than necessary portions, beer, Thanksgiving binge, stopped exercising regularly, etc... You know the story. So when I weighed in to start back last week, I was 194. That's 8 pounds up in as many weeks. I just can't believe how fast I let it slide.

I hope I can get it back in gear soon, because I'm finding it really difficult to get back on the train. I lost 3 pounds week one, but I've made some questionable eating decisions in the last two days, and I'm just having trouble mentally committing. So this is kind of my personal call-out, in front of all of you. I will do better and finish the week strong. I think I'll bring my workout clothes to work tomorrow and get on the treadmill during lunch. I really need to get back running again.

That's all for now. Words of encouragement and advice appreciated.

Super cute kids! I know you will get back into the swing of things. My advice is to make little changes. It can become overwhelming quickly, but don't despair. Just keep doing what you can and have faith. You've been here before so you should know that it's possible. Also, give yourself adequate time and don't get down on yourself when you eat the wrong things. You've got this!

You can totally get out your kick butt mental attitude back out and rock it !!
You did it before and this time you will come back even stronger.
That was so awesome of your job to give you all that time to bond with your family. What a blessing!! And what a beauitful family you have , your children are just precious. Holidays wouldn't be fun holidays without the treats. If you ask me I think you did pretty good. 8 lbs no problem !! YOu got this !! emoticon
Just set up your plan, make out your mission statement and each day is a new day. Bring them workout clothes and force yourself back on that treadmill and in no time it will all kick in. It must be so cool to have your wife along side of you doing this together!! That's the best part so rock on and good luck to you both !! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Really adorable kids and you sound like a wonderful Dad. Motivation?? Look at those beautiful faces and tell yourself you want to be a great grandpa some day. I've slipped over a long summer vacation and it is amazing how fast it comes back when there is too much input and not enough output. I'm back on track now especially with my exercise. It sounds like you have a good plan too. I wish you well in getting back up to speed.

Cool profile pic! Understandable that you weren't really concentrating on fitness/diet for a few weeks : ) We've all had that much of a weight relapse, don't sweat it. You'll be back on stride in no time, especially with your DW onside with you. Best wishes to both of you for renewed success in your health/fitness/weight loss journeys!

Your children are darling! Congratulations on the new baby.
I'm sure you and your wife can reach your goals. It sounds like you have an awesome support team in each other, plus you have Sparkers to cheer you on too! Besides, you're going to need all the energy you can get to chase around two little ones once he gets mobile. emoticon

Beer is so evil! I miss it T..T There is a lot of cute going on in this blog. I think it's awesome that your work let you get time off to spend with the new baby. I've never heard of paternity leave before, but It's really cool that you were able to do that.

One more hard month to get through... then even the most remote aquaintances will be all gung-ho about fitness with new year's resolutions! I think it will definitely get easier then.. if we can all manage to make it through December!

I have 1000% faith in you. I've watched you kick your own ass all year long and I know you are going to finish on a strong note. You are a rockstar at everything you put your mind to-- being a husband, parenting, music, losing weight- and I'm so proud of how far you have come in 2012. You totally inspire me.

But it was really fun to binge on Halloween candy with you. ;)
