It wasn't a mistake. I didn't "blow" anything. It's true that I have no clue what the nutritional value of my dinner was this evening, only that it was probably my whole week's allotment of carbs and fats emoticon but I'm really not concerned about it. There's only so many birthdays we get to celebrate with our children and my boy is 17 now. He'll be in college for his 18th and I may not be invited to whatever he does. emoticon He wanted to go to the Hibachi grill so we did Hibachi. I had steak with veggies, rice, lo mein, and more soy sauce and butter than I can even measure. And I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! Then we came home and had red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and vanilla ice cream. I have a major sugar buzz that's starting to dwindle into a headache now!

But I'm eating very well most of the time and I'm exercising every day (except a couple days last week when I was so sick) so I know I'm still going to run a calorie deficit for the week. I don't know if I'll lose 2lbs but my weight loss has slowed recently. That's OK, too. It might be January before I start losing consistently again but as long as the general trend is down, I'm happy!

I'm just trying to say that, even though I have no idea what my nutritional track for today was, that's OK. It's one day out of many, many days. I actually feel like I made a GOOD decision! I enjoyed celebrating with my son and the dinner and dessert were remarkable and tomorrow I can count every calorie again emoticon

Life's too short to skip birthdays!

    emoticon You have to celebrate when you can. I know how that is. My son is soon to be 21 and my daughter will graduate this year. Enjoy the moments. You will be able to find the balance as you move through the rest of the week.

    It's about doing better not doing perfect. If the only thing you did was eat mindfully - paying attention to what you ate AND to the meaning behind the meal (celebrating) - then that was doing better than not caring what you ate as you spent more time thinking about what to eat than why you were out.

    Glad you were able to celebrate with your son. Don't forget that even when he goes away to college, as long as you offer to buy him a meal he should be willing to spend time with you. Very few college students will turn down a free meal, even if it means spending time with their parents. Whether it's celebrated on a different day or is lunch instead of dinner, you'll enjoy it still, right?
