Yin and Yang

Thursday, December 27, 2012

My downward eating spiral all began with candy cane ice cream peppered with chocolate shavings. Oh dear, I convinced myself I was buying it for the family. But really and truly ice cream is my kryptonite and I am no Superwoman I can assure you! I was going to buy this devilish treat again today when my husband thwarted my effort with a spirited verbal defense as to why I shouldn't. I guess I had the choice to run him over with my shopping cart but alas, reason took over and I refrained. Now, I am happy he put his life in jeopardy for it is indeed life threatening to put yourself in the path between me and a brick of ice cream. Sigh, he is truly a veteran of my diet wars and has some scars to prove it too! This was my yin, the dark side.

On the bright side or yang, I exercised like mad. I stepped it up to three group personal training sessions right over the Christmas break period. This exercising probably burnt up some of those ice cream calories, not all, but some. In the old days, I would have abandoned exercise along with my overeating. Not a spotless record by anyone's standards, even by my low ones. Hey, it is some progress and I will take it.

Bringing potato chips home was my downfall this holiday season. But we are still here and making a plan and setting goals for the new year, a slip is a slip. We're back up again and on the wagon!

I had to laugh at this line: "I guess I had the choice to run him over with my shopping cart but alas, reason took over and I refrained." LOL. Glad you didn't run him over and that he was there to help you make the better choice regarding the ice cream.

I am like you. Eating has not been the best over the past couple weeks, but I've ramped up the exercise and that seems to be helping minimize the damage. I am steadily getting back on track with food but have to be so careful about what I bring into the house.

I like the humor you add into your blogs. Sometimes, we honesty with ourselves is difficult but being able to laugh a little helps. I think it's wonderful that you listened to the voice of reason aka your husband.

Great job on stepping up the exercise! woohoo!
