Recap of 2012...

Friday, December 28, 2012

OK - so I can't really go back and read ALL my blogs from this year and get an accurate picture of 2012. Hard to do with two blogs written all year (not counting this one). I can give a semi-quick update though - based entirely on what I remember (and maybe a quick peek at my desk calendar).
Where to start.....
.
Well, how about my weight/health/activity? Seems logical...
I had started out this year at around 220 lbs (based on the one weight I entered this year) and currently I am at around 200 lbs - so down 20 lbs. YAY! How did I do that? Well, Weight Watchers actually - I got really serious about it in April when we had an update to our insurance payments at work. The newest thing is that if your BMI is in the obese category (30 and above) you paid a monthly surcharge. My BMI was over 30 - by quite a bit. There was a caveat that if you got your BMI down below 30 - or lost 10% of your current body weight you would get that surcharge back, and then be charged the lower rate for all of 2013. So I worked at it - and lost the 10%. Actually more like 11% - so go me! I tracked on the WW site all my food and activity, and I even started a C25K program. I felt great! I got to my goal at the beginning of October. Then I slowed down a bit until Thanksgiving. Then I gained a tiny bit each week until this week - then up at least 3 lbs (find out for sure tomorrow at the "official" weigh-in). So I am over 200 - but I need to get down to 185ish before the next weigh check for 2014 rates. My next goal was to get to 185ish by Valentines Day. However, considering the debacle of November/December I may have to re-evaluate.

Next: Non-work stuff
I became very active in my church this year - I was chosen to be the chairperson of the finance committee. This has gotten my smack dab in the heart of church stuff. And to try to balance that out I joined the new bell choir - which is fun. Other than that - I am still walking a lot of 5Ks - in fact I got one next Monday. I also went on a couple of trips with my best girlfriends - once to Indiana for a long weekend, and once to Vegas. Total fun, lots of laughs and good relaxation. I have also started learning Tae Kwondo with my son. We started in September, and we hope to test up to the high white belt in January. We have a lot to learn before then though! Other than that I spend most of my time hanging with the son, and trying to organize and clean up the house - it is amazing how much stuff 3 people can accumulate - and how much stuff isn't necessary and is essentially garbage.

Work:
Was hard and yet oddly not hard at the same time. I found out at the end of last year that due to reorganization that my duties were reduced from a regional level back to a local level. That was hard to get over. The way it was handled was done very poorly and I took it very personally. After much reflection, it was probably the best solution and I am OK with it now. In fact, it worked out pretty well as my non-work life got pretty busy. This summer I was able to be part of a large training session (helping train people on a new program). It was a lot of fun, and even though I know that I am not a good teacher (as in standing in the front of the room lecturing), I think that I may be a pretty good trainer - showing people how to one on one, or supporting the lead trainer. Other than that, I spent my time tweaking the work and finding better ways to get things done. I still have a lot of work to do in that respect.

What is is store for 2013? Heck if I know.... HA.
I do know that I am thinking about trying to journal more - and I think this is a good place to do it. I hope to make this journalizing thing more of a habit. I just need to figure out what I will write about... any suggestions? Anyone?
Also - to hit the magic number of 29 and not be "obese" anymore.
And to find time to find peace and quiet in my head. This may mean I have to make some hard choices - but sometimes the hardest choices are the ones most worth making.
Well, off to the weekend.

Yay, you for your weight loss. I wish I had a "fiscal" incentive - that would help we work harder, too, to get the weight off!

    Nicely done!
