Fashion Advice

Sunday, December 30, 2012

We were having relatives over for a fancy dinner and I decided to seek fashion advice from one of my twin boys Gavin who is 23 years old. I had on a very expensive top from Eileen Fisher that I had loved when I bought it last year. At that time, I was much heavier and it was quite flattering. I knew it was hanging on me a bit but I wanted to get away with it because it had been quite an investment. My son took one look at me and said, "Mom, you can't wear that top, it is far too loose on you." To which I responded, "Well, why not? Just think of how comfortable I will be in it when I am having company over!" He thought that over and said, "Well don't you want to show off your slim figure? You should wear something smaller to show it off!" I immediately change into something far more form fitting!

That's quite an achievement, getting a young man to notice you've lost weight.
    You must be doing great!!

Marvellous that you are showing off that slim figure! Here's hoping you can take in your expensive top too, however: sometimes a few strategically placed darts will do it!! Or: could it be belted?

You have an awesome son! Is there any way you could remove the sleeves, take the shoulders and sides in to make it fit better then put the sleeves back in? I've done that with several of my shirts lately, it's not that hard if the seams are basic and not flat and double stitched. You can take it in a couple of inches doing that, it might be enough to make it flattering again and get some more mileage out of your investment.

What a great story! I love that your son was giving you fashion advice and I have to say, I totally agree. I have become almost weird about not wanting to wear clothes that don't fit me nicely. I figure we have worked too hard to get healthy and look good. So, yes, your son is so right to say, show off your slim figure!
