The very first...!

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

It is not lost on me that I have been a member of Sparkpeople for 2 years and have NEVER written a blog. I've never been the most reflective person (forced myself to have a diary for a summer in junior high, I kept 'forgetting' to write in it), but since I'm trying to get a jumpstart with Sparkcoach and the January Jumpstart Challenge, I figured why the heck not.

So here it goes...my Sparkcoach topic 'assignment':

"Blog about the obvious (and not-so-obvious) ways you tend to waste time, and come up with a few healthier ways you can use that time to work toward your goals."

A little background to get started: I am a supervisor in a more transparent part of my agency and a part-time MBA graduate student entering my final semester. Needless to say, I don't have much time available for the wasting. However, like anyone, I have my vices. I enjoy TV quite a bit and use my DVR to its capacity. I also love reading and have the habit of getting addicted to book series (currently reading the Lost Heroes Series by Rick Riordan, last chapter of book 2). I often read while on the stationary bike or elliptical at the gym, so I think I'm utilizing my time nicely there. However, the TV watching could be brought down quite a bit. And, if nothing else, I should try and do a few push-ups and crunches during commercial break.

I think I just set a new goal!
Goal 1: Do push-ups and/or sit-ups during the commercial break of at least 1 1-hour show.

I don't watch much tv but during the commercials I lift dumbbells. I think anything do keep you active for the duration of those commercials is a great idea!
