Doctor's Appointments make me Feel Old
Sunday, February 03, 2013
Well it's that time of year when my yearly physical at the Doctor's is done. I hate this time of year, not so much for the actual physical, but for the results of the tests performed. I guess I am lucky that the big "C" was not found, but other things have cropped up. Hypertension (high blood pressure) and somewhat high cholesterol, plus a raise in my glucose ( not diabetes, but prediabetes). So now, I get the joy of adding yet more pills to my repetoire of pills to be consumed daily. It sucks, but again, I thank God no cancer was found. I just like to vent sometimes, to get it off my chest and hopefully to lower my blood pressure instead of bottling it up inside of me.
So... I have made some changes to my eating habits. The 1st one and probably the biggest is to eliminate desserts as much as possible, not entirely, but being choosey
on what kinds to put in my mouth, which eliminates quite a few. Going without something sweet at the end of my Dinner is okay, learning to do without is hard, but I am doing it with fantastic results. I have lost a total of 10 lbs, just by making this one small change. WOOHOO!!!
The thought of eliminating sugar altogether is unrealistic, my body needs some sugar, just not the amount I was consuming before. I am not using a sugar substitute, as there is soooo much controversy on what kinds are good for you and what kinds can cause cancer. Splenda has gotten just too many bad comments for me to continue to use it. I am searching Stevia right now, and so far so good, but it is not readily available here in Canada like it is in the US. I brought home a bag of Domino Sugar & Stevia blend but again only available in the US, plus it is long gone now as it was used up.
Anyways, just thought I would check in with ya guys just to let you know I am still alive and kicking, just not on Sparkpeople as much as I used to be. I still track my food (almost) every day and track my excercise (when I get a chance) to do some. So bye for now and keep on Sparking my friends.
