Healthy Habit #4: Being Generous!
Tuesday, March 05, 2013
Being generous is my worship and praise to the living God of my faith. Some of that is through my active SparkPeople participation and commitment to my Challenge Teams and SparkFriends. SparkPeople is a great resource for finding the most positive pe0ple I know. To God be the glory.
"[Remember] this: he who sows sparingly and grudgingly will also reap sparingly and grudgingly, and he who sows generously [[a]that blessings may come to someone] will also reap generously and with blessings." (2 Corinthians 9:6, Amplified Bible)
We can do good works for the wrong reasons. God is not just interested in what we do but why we do it. “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” (James 2:26)
I enjoy knitting and providing prayer shawls and lap robes for two churches I attend.
With my Tuesday Missions Group, I am part of a team of people who buy and cut fleece for mittens for the homeless and needy. I’m thrilled when I can buy fleece throws for $2 or so at AC Moore (with discount) or Walmart and then cut 24 pair of mitten with four fleece throws.
These are just a few ways I give back to my communities. Being proactive in ways that may benefit others is a large part of who I am. It not only feels good, but showing love to our neighbor(s) is also the right thing to do. (Lev 19:18; Matt 22:39) It’s not about making long check lists, but about giving with a heart filled with the kind of unconditional love I know the Lord has for all his children.
I believe all people have a code that they live by that often includes a level of generosity.
Be generous and loving to others and yourself.
