Cervantes and Nambung National Park Day 4

Thursday, April 04, 2013

What a day! We took a bus to Cervantes, a beautiful little coastal town on the Indian Ocean. It was then on to Nambung National Park where we saw the pinnacles and stromatolites. I was amazed that you could have desert and ocean right next to each other, in my mind this is kind of contradictory.

I love to explore caves and this was like an inside-out cave. The limestone pinnacles and the stromatolites reminded me of stalagmites and stalactites. The pinnacles are in a sea of yellow sand and the stromatolites are in Lake Thetis, which provides just the right amount of salinity and current to allow them to grow.

The walk between Thirsty Point and Hansen Bay provided views of sand dunes and bush with wildflowers of every shape and color and even an occasional kangaroo, emu, lizard and snake.

After a long day of exploring it was time head back to town where I had Indian Ocean Rock Lobster for dinner. A wonderful ending to a wonderful day.
