Bibbulmun Track Virtual Trek Day 10

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Today was our second day on the Bibbulmun Track and we continued through the bush and saw more interesting trees and beautiful flowers. We occasionally had to crawl over fallen trees that blocked the track, but that just made things more exciting.

We climbed to the top of Mt. Dale, winding through jarrah and wandoo forests to a spectacular view that made it worth every step. We later crossed Brookton Highway and wove through a swamp filled with paperbark and banksia trees, both of which had interesting flowers. I have to admit that all I could think about while stomping through the swamp was whether or not I was picking up leeches, but when we finally got to Abyssinia Rock we were greeted by a sea of wildflowers that made the trek worthwhile.

We then headed into Monadnocks Conservation Park where we made camp for the night. While we were sitting around eating dinner and discussing our days adventure, we were visited by a possum looking for an easy meal, but feeding the wildlife is strictly forbidden so he eventually wandered on.
