Forest Heritage Centre Day 13
Saturday, April 13, 2013
Since we are spending a couple of days in Dwellingup, I decided to check out some of the local attractions. Today I went to the Forest Heritage Centre where even the building is shaped like a leaf. The centre had a retail gallery that sold wood crafts and furniture built in the community workshop and sourced from local and surrounding craftspeople and artists.
There was also an interpretive centre, walking trails, and a tree-top viewing platform. The interpretive centre offers information about the trees, wildflowers, and animals of the local area and a history of the forest industry. From the tree-top platform I had an amazing view of the forest canopy. Down one of the trails was a hand-made timber-getter's hut and a campfire that showed how simply the early timber workers lived.
After an interesting morning at the centre, I went back to the Blue Wren Cafe for some lunch before heading back to my room for a nap.
