It's been awhile...

Saturday, April 20, 2013

It's been a long time since I've been active at Sparkpeople. I stopped tracking my weight here but I did achieve my goal weight in the summer of 2010. It felt great! The energy, confidence, & overall feeling of good health was even better than how good I looked. And I looked really good...

I stayed at my goal for several months. The weight started to creep back on slowly. I didn't worry about it because I thought, "I lost it once, so it's no big deal."

3 years and almost 20 lbs later, I think it's become a big deal. I wish I had stayed active here. I probably could have joined one of those maintenance groups and nipped it in the bud before now. I haven't gained back ALL the weight I lost, but I don't want to ignore it any longer.

So here I am again. I updated my spark page, join a few new groups, & am posting a blog now.

For my nutrition I am following along with a book I read, I Can Make You Thin by Paul McKenna. I love it so far. If you aren't familiar with it, it features 4 Golden Rules to follow and involves learning to follow your own body's signals. There's also a hypnosis CD you listen to everyday. I don't know how much it helps, but its very relaxing and I've noticed my mood has improved a lot since I've been listening to it. I'm trying not to count calories if I can help it because its so boring to me!

For exercise, I've been playing my favorite active video games, mainly Dance Dance Revolution on my PC. I also love to play Dance Central, but the Xbox is set up in the living room. I only get to use it when I can when no one else is watching TV. DDR is amazing cardio though! I started playing it in 2010. I remember when I could barely pass songs on Basic, now I mostly play on Expert.

The thing I like best about motion gaming is that I can tell my husband, "Oh I need to workout today," and be really serious about it but its really just an excuse to play the games. On the inside I'm like, "Yay! It's time to dance on the Kinect!"

Since last week I've lost 4 lbs. I know that's mostly water and it will slow down soon. I don't mind losing weight slowly though. I jumped on the trampoline in the backyard with my 6-year-old today for an hour or so. I know that must've burned some calories, but I may still play DDR later.

If you've read this far, then leave a comment. Especially if you like to play any of the games I mentioned. I like talking about them almost as much as I enjoy playing them :-)

Here's to the rest of the weekend!

Thanks for the comments and encouragement. I haven't played Zumba on the Wii yet. I tried doing the videos once when I borrowed them from my aunt but I was never able to get the hang of it. I can do the hip movements and I can do the footwork, but I can't seem to do them both together haha! I wonder if it would be easier on the Wii since it scores you by your hip movements...

I tried Wii Zumba, but didn't think it was as good as a class. I wouldn't mind trying the Kinex version. I enjoy playing Wii though and do find it can give you a workout as well. I haven't played in a while. I should try again.

Keep up the good with the workouts and weight loss!

I loved playing DDR but it's been so long since I have done that. We just got a trampoline last night that I wanna try out, but the weather has been icky so it's not in the yard yet. I also love playing zumba wii, but again, it's been a while. But hey, I have to agree, any excuse to play games is good for me!!!
