6/2/2013 A beautiful start to the day!

Sunday, June 02, 2013

I was up earlier than expected and decided to walk when it got light outside. So at 5:15 am I went for a nice walk. I didn't play music. I walked my fastest pace yet. 18 minute mile and that was encouraging. I was surprised that I walked that fast without music. There also wasn't much traffic, which can sometimes be a problem when I walk the route I took this morning. emoticon emoticon My new shoes are sure improving my muscle pain when I walk. I sometimes still get shin splints, but I wouldn't if I did the exercises that SP recommends!! My hip muscles don't hurt as bad and my thoracic spine and low back are getting strengthened and hurt less and less. emoticon The benefits of walking are numerous and I am definitely seeing many of them. The reduced pain; increased stamina; weight loss!! ( emoticon ); and a decrease in negative mental illness symptoms. My doctor will be pleased at the end of June when I go to see him as I am steadily losing weight. It is slow, but steady.

Most of the time I sleep pretty well. There are more nights when I wake up sweating lately. One of my doctor's said that my hot flashes and night sweats are heat induced. I didn't have a problem with them all winter. What a relief! emoticon Now as the heat increases they are back. Especially when the temperature in my apartment is above 70 degrees. I don't like to run the air conditioner at night, but I might have to start doing it again. It is in the living room, so not so cool in the bedroom. It does make it more comfortable for sleeping. The thing that heats up my bedroom is the emoticon . I have a west window in my bedroom, so the sun hits in the afternoon and is on that side of my apartment until it goes down. And it goes down later and later as the summer advances. It will be up until 10 pm at the peak of summer. It is also hard to go to emoticon sometimes when it is so light outside. My blinds don't block out all the light. I could put up curtains and might have to this year. I know my friend would make them for me. She used sheets from Walmart to make hers. I would want to be able to close them all the way and not just keep them back like she does. It would also add some color to my bedroom. My air conditioner is too close to my window to put curtains in my living room. (At least in my opinion!) Would it look funny to have curtains in my bedroom and not my living room? They are totally separate rooms. Let me know what you think!!

Well, I better get in the shower. I am chilly from sweating and them turning on the air conditioner. I need to take a nice hot shower and stretch my muscles some more. It will feel good. My feet are a little chilly, too, as I have been sitting at the computer for awhile.

Have a great sunday. Remember...it is what you make it, so make it great!!

Glad you had such a good walk! Hmmm, you must live much further north than I do (mid-Atlantic US)...I definitely don't have the problem of the sun still being up at 10, nor is it light enough to take a walk at 5:!5! As for curtains, I don't think it would be weird at all to have some in one room and none in another.

If curtains in your bedroom would darken the room sufficiently for you to sleep you should do it. Lot's of retailers sell room darkening curtains that totally block out all light. They also help maintain your indoor temperatures because they are usually lined or made of heavy material. You could close them to block out the hot afternoon sun. Good luck!

Angie, I've found I do better without music too. I was getting headaches from the earbuds so since you can't wear them in road races, I went without and I think it's better.

What can I say about hot flashes? I am the queen of hot flashes. -20ยบ I sleep with just a sheet. I do better in the winter too as far as that goes.
We have an east facing window in the bedroom which means it's light around 4:30 am until about 10:00 pm in the bedroom! Our blinds are not dark enough in the bed room! I just have shears in the living room.

Have a great day, and stay dry! (raining again here)
