Not So Routine Appointment

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Sometimes it seems that the harder I work, the more things go wrong. Okay, that's a bit dramatic, but I am frustrated at myself. I went to the dentist yesterday for a routine cleaning. They had told me in September that I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed. Well, now I have two fillings from when I was a kid that are coming out. I need to have them removed and refilled as well. Oh, and my blood pressure was extremely high.

Back in 2008, I went to a local clinic because of irritation in my eye from a torn contact. My blood pressure was so high I ended up in the emergency room. By the end of the week, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes. I did everything that he told me to and kept things under control. In late 2009, I went to the clinic for an appointment and the PA I had been seeing was not there so I saw a female. She looked through my chart and told me that the other PA was wrong and that I did not need any of the medication. She said I was borderline pre-diabetic and should have been put on a diet and not medication. She also thought my blood pressure was fine. She basically bad mouthed the other PA and made it sound like he had wasted my time and money. Not to mention scared me and my family for no reason. So I have not been back to a doctor since late 2009.

Back to yesterday. I go to the dentist every six months for a routine cleaning. The only perk of having dental insurance which we got to save a little bit on my daughter's braces. Anyway, they have never checked my blood pressure but yesterday they did as part of their new routine. My blood pressure was 180/144. Now I am scared that something could happen and angry that I was told I did not need medication. I also need to schedule a doctor's appointment and my supervisor is not going to be very happy. I took off several times last month to take my daughter to the doctor so she was not happy with me having a dentist appointment yesterday. She even made me drive back to work (which is 10 miles one way) for an hour. Now I have to tell her that I am trying to get an appointment for this week. But I am really scared that my life is in danger and I need to get this checked out and get back on medication.

This year I am going to get healthy. I am working really hard to lose weight and be healthy. If that means going on medication and making my supervisor mad, then that is what is going to have to happen.

Today's workout was 40 minutes of Insanity Cardio Resistance which burned over 500 calories!

Stress can affect your blood pressure and blood sugar. Please take care of yourself. I agree that a second opinion is in order. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks, I did make a huge mistake by not getting a second opinion and keeping up with my health. My supervisor was actually pretty nice about it. I don't have an appointment set but have warned her that I will have, hopefully this week. We are a really small office and right now we don't have an executive director. There are a lot of problems with the board, so I don't feel comfortable or trust anyone right now.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. But you don't need to worry about what your boss thinks. She is obviously not real personable or caring person. You need to worry about you and your health. That BP can become fatal. You don't want to chance that regardless of your boss' thoughts. If you have to and if it's possible, if your boss has a boss, talk to them about your situation so if anything arises, they are aware of your situation and possibly will help you out if your boss causes issues. Make sure you take care of you. Hope everything is better. And just a word of advise, if you ever feel uncomfortable about a decision a doctor is making, always, always get a second opinion. Never take chances, especially if one is willing to bad mouth another doctor, that doesn't say much about their credibility. Good luck and I will be praying for you.
