knee pain - new shoes help but don't solve the problem
Monday, June 17, 2013
Well, my new shoes from my last blog post ended up being too small so I returned them for a larger size. They didn't have the larger size in stock, so I had to wait a while. I finally got them this weekend and was able to take them out for their first run this morning!
Maybe its weird, but I decided to start a personal journal today too, to write about my runs. It occurred to me that the shoes I just retired have seen me through a lot of miles, and I would like to be able to remember my experiences better. Maybe gain some insight into what affects my running performance, or just to look back at later to see where I was now.
My journal today talks about the knee pain I have been experiencing and how my new shoes (Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13) are supposed to be supportive to reduce my over pronation. They are!! But I noticed today that my knee is still tracking to the inside of my gait, so I set out to find some exercises to strengthen my hip abductors so that I can maybe run without such a wobbly knee. I ran across the Myrtl routine, and did it today after running, and it feels like it will make a big difference. I felt it especially in the lying leg lifts and the "fire hydrant" (lol).

Yoga is helping me to keep my hips stretched out which also is a big improvement.
I remember how badly my hips hurt last year, and it seems like I'm just down to fine tuning now. Progress!!
