The power of choice

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I was reading this in one of my textbooks for this fall and it hit home.

"Do beliefs cause behaviors, or do behaviors lead to beliefs? Like the chicken and the egg, it's hard to say which came first. This much is clear: Once you choose a positive belief or an effective behavior, you usually find yourself in a cycle of success. Positive beliefs lead to effective behaviors. Effective behaviors lead to success. And success reinforces the positive beliefs."

OTT--endoscopy is tomorrow and of course I'm able to swallow again...figures!

I like this blog. It gives me something to think about.

I saw a couple of TEDTalks on Netflix. One was about smiling and the other had to do with the way we sit or stand and its effect on the way we feel.

The one about smiling said that if we smile (even if we fake a smile) for a minute or so, it will change the way we feel from being negative to positive or more cheerful.

The talk on the subject of how we sit or stand said that people who are confident take up more space where they are. When a person feels intimidated or shy or lacks confidence, if he will assume a power position (think of the way Superman or Wonder Woman stands with feet apart and hands on hips) for two minutes with his body, he will also begin to feel more confident and powerful.

So I would definitely say that behavior leads to beliefs and vice verso.

I'll say a prayer for you tonight that the endoscopy goes well.
