Outside Workout

Have you ever noticed those guys that don't actually go to a gym and workout but they actually work outside most of the day? They are almost always fit and look good! So why do I feel guilty adding it to my fitness tracker?
Well, first of all, I enjoy it and I have a hard time equating enjoyment and exercise! Right now, I can barely move my arms but I accomplished so much today! Second, I am always reminded that movement does not equal exercise.

One day, I wore my HRM while I was mowing and my heart rate went up as much as it does on the elliptical. (We have major inclines in our yard!) I haven't tested the weedeater with the HRM mainly because I don't feel the heart rate elevation so I don't feel like it should count as cardio, but I do feel the sore arm muscles later! (Like today, but after weed eating for almost an hour, I also spent close to an hour using a skill saw to cut up a bunch of wood we need to reduce to smaller pieces.) My right arm is still trying to figure out what happened today. When I squat and crawl around and weed the yard or wipe down garden plant leaves, I always end up with sore glutes and thighs.

I will work on shedding the guilt, while I continue to improve my yard, garden and myself (and track it all)!

    Totally a workout. So is vigorous cleaning, like when I cleaned the whole house from baseboards to walls, to cabinets, to windows, etc. when we moved. I was happy to find it in the fitness tracker as I sure felt it, being tired that night and having sore muscles the day after.

    I know what you mean when you feel that enjoyment and exercising cannot be the same thing. I have been there myself, and now I am starting to enjoy exercise, so it kind of turned a switch in my way of looking at it. emoticon
