You Have GOT To Be Kidding Me!!!

As I have posted before, I have been struggling with motivation. This past month I’ve been mostly eating healthful foods but not exercising as regularly as I should. In fact, there were about 10 consecutive days that I did not work out. I have been keeping up with doing my 10-minute walks during my work breaks but that was the extent of my physical fitness. Then there was Independence Day weekend which had many temptations, some of which I did not resist (ice cream and beer). I have been avoiding the scale because I knew that I just un-did some of my hard work. So, yesterday I decided it was finally time to face reality and get on the scale to see what damage was done.
I lost 2 more pounds!!! I am now down 23 pounds!!! You're kidding me!!!
What this really shows me is how important the food is. Yes, exercise is a crucial part of it, I will not downplay that fact at all, but nutrition is definitely HUGE in losing and maintaining weight. The fact that I did not have junk in my pantry or refrigerator saved me from myself. When I raided my kitchen for snacks, I only had healthful choices. I ate an extra apple or banana. I grabbed a handful of almonds. I toasted a sprouted grain english muffin and spread honey on it. I sliced up a cucumber and ate the slices like potato chips. Awesome! I also have healthful snacks on hand for my family members. I froze a bunch of seedless red grapes this weekend and loved seeing my mother and older brother happily snacking on them while watching TV yesterday afternoon.
Although my motivation to workout comes-and-goes and I have occasional days of eating no-no foods or portions that are bigger than they should be, at least I know that I am the right track with my overall nutrition because my body is still improving and I am finding it so much easier to stick with the foods I should eat.
