The reason I LOVE to travel is discovering hidden gems where you would least expect them.
When I planned this trip, Wichita was about 8 hours from home so would make a good stopping place. As I researched I found a museum called "The Museum of World Treasures" and I was hooked -- I mean, really? In Wichita, KANSAS? What a lark, right?
Well, we had an awesome day sightseeing yesterday!
I got up early and did 40 minutes of the Spark Video "Fit, Firm and Fired Up." I had to modify some of the moves because the trailer doesn't have a lot of floor space! Then, once TC got up we found a lovely park (thanks to the GPS) and did about a two-mile walk. Then off to the botanical garden which was GORGEOUS and a lovely stroll. Their children's garden made me sorry I wasn't 5 years old again!
Then we drove around the downtown area, ate our packed lunch (cold Taco soup, fruit, carrots) and then went to the Museum of World Treasures. It actually was a great surprise -- what an eclectic mix of artifacts!
Then we walked on the trail that runs along the Arkansas River. There is a beautiful pedestrian bridge and a statue on an island in the middle of the river called "Keeper of the Plain", which is a tribute to the culture of the American Indians. In all we put in over 20,000 steps.
The city center was clean, had tons of museums and LOTS of parks and green spaces. We are really sorry we will have to miss the art museum, the Mid American Indian Museum and others. Oh well, things for another trip, right?
This morning we went back to the park and did the 5K 101 intervals, and continued walking for a total of 4 miles. Now we will head out to Colorado.
My eating has been good and meals are planned for the day. I'm hoping to get another walk in once we "land" this afternoon but it just depends on where we end up and what's available.
Oh! Did you notice my new profile picture? Sparkpeople doesn't have a picture for losing 35 pounds, so I had to make my own. Hey, it's taken me long enough to get here so I'm celebrating every pound!!!
