End of summer update... I'm back(ish)!

Monday, August 26, 2013

It seems that my kids are growing up on me! My son started his first day of college today. He's starting at the local community college with the plan of transferring to a university after 2 years. Although I won't see him everyday things aren't really changing that drastically just yet. He'll be staying at my parents' house through the week because my mom works at the college and they can carpool. And, seriously, for the last year he's spent quite a lot of time at their house so I'm already pretty adjusted to this arrangement. It's just now I don't have to wake him up in the mornings and food may not disappear quite as quickly emoticon

My girl is also growing up too quickly. She started 5th grade. I know it's different everywhere but in this district 6th grade is middle school and neither of us is ready for that! Thankfully we still have this year but I know it's going to go by very quickly.

As for me? I've been working on some craft projects and have some great ideas for Christmas. I tried a flea market booth for my crafts but it was a day that nobody at the market had decent sales. In fact, one of the married couples who have had a booth there for over 10 years now said they don't even open up in August anymore. It's just not worth it. I'll give it another shot this weekend because it's the end/beginning of the month. If that doesn't work, I'll wait til closer to "Black Thursday" (as the holiday formerly known as "Thanksgiving" was called last year) then try again for the impulsive stampede shoppers. (I get VERY cynical about "holiday shopping" and I can already tell I'm going to be downright bitchy about it this year!)

I've had a difficult time maintaining my healthy eating and exercise habits over the summer break, too. I haven't had any regain but am more consistently weighing in at the higher end of my 5lb average range. One thing that's really going to help is grocery shopping without my daughter. She's 10 years old and has autism, OCD, and ADHD. The child talks incessantly, usually about whatever television show or book she's currently obsessing on (often asking what would happen if this set of characters landed in the world of a different set of characters or what "cutie marks" the Warriors cats would have). This makes it incredibly difficult to focus on anything so grocery shopping has been terrible all summer! I just grab what I have to get and leave ASAP. But now I'll be able to actually think about grocery shopping while I'm at the store m0g! AND I only have to prep for the 2 of us most of the time. Hopefully I can get my monthly grocery total WAY down!

Ditto that with exercise and housekeeping... my multitasking abilities are negligible and I don't deny it. My girl will get my attention every time because 1) I like her better than whatever else I'm trying to do and 2) she'll go away one day, the housework will still be there and 3) refer to #1.

But, anyway, it may take me awhile to start recording everything every day again like I was doing and I can't promise to update daily but I promise to do my best not to neglect SP for so long now! Choices had to be made over the summer and I hope I didn't screw them all up but I'm here now emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Every single person must learn how to LIVE a healthier life, not just learn about how to do it and talk about it. You have your struggles, as does everyone, but you've clearly made some changes and learned some good habits to not be paying much attention but still essentially maintain. You're LIVING your healthier life, not just talking about it or learning about it. You're doing it. No one is perfect and difficulties come up, so we can only keep pushing forward.

Now that your daughter is heading back to school and your son isn't going to be around as much you can re-prioritize your days and get back on track. You'll be able to do it - I have faith in you!
