Committments and priorities...

When I logged in to blog tonight, I reread my blog about Augusts goals and life throwing you a curve...I thought at the time that the rescheduling of my knee surgery was a hindrance to completing my August goals. Little did I know then, but it was the best thing that could have happened.
Having my surgery done early and my healing well under way, I was ready to meet my next challenge...having my mom move in with us for awhile. Having another person added to the household can be a challenge under the best of circumstances, but Mom and I together is never the best of circumstances...Mom has mental health issues as well as the health challenges associated with aging. My siblings and I have tried to be there for her when she needs us but not be manipulated and taken advantage of as has sometimes been the case in the past.
Everything seems to be thrown to the wayside as I try to get her into a daily routine and blend her into our household. Of course, all the emotions of past hurts come rushing back and we all know how food addicts deal with that!!
So I sat down and had a chat with myself about priorities and commitments. Of course my family is a priority, but how can I take care of them if I am not here? Don't I deserve to be a priority too? And I have made a commitment to my mother, but I also made one to myself and my spark friends.
I have decide to make the "commitment" to my health a "priority". Doesn't that seem like the obvious thing to do?
