This week has been tough. The scale has been all over the place due to monthly bloating. One day it showed that I had gained 3 lbs in less than a day. I know that's impossible as hard as I've been working.
My calories have been tougher to stick to this week too. Every month at this time I crave salty, crunchy, carb-y foods: the worst things to eat if you're battling water weight.
The other battle I fight is the one going on in my head. My negative voice says, "It's not water weight. You're just making excuses. You're failing yourself yet again." I tell that voice to take a hike and remind it that I've only failed if I give up.
On Sunday, I got stung on my eyelid by a wasp (ouch!). I spent Monday in front of the TV feeling sleepy from the antihistamine I was taking to bring the swelling in my eye down.
On Tuesday my new pedometer came in the mail *happy dance*! I love it! I can wear it around my neck and it's still accurate. It also shows calories burned, aerobic minutes, and beeps for me when I reach my 10k goal everyday. Someday I'll get a Fitbit when finances allow, but this little device is perfect until then!
On Wednesday, I spent the day on the phone with my grandmother and MIL (they both love to talk). Although I paced around while talking and even ran some errands in town after getting the kids from school, I didn't get anywhere near 10k steps. I'd already bombed on that twice this week and didn't want to go for three, so I hit the DDR pad after supper. My gaming computer is set up in my mom-cave so I can go in there and crank up the music without bothering anybody. It took about 45 minutes to get my 10k. I also got some pretty good scores ;-). 3rd Mix, anyone?
On Thursday I did a baddie by saving my entire calorie budget for the day for one meal: chili frito pie w/ hubby and the kids. Not very nutritious :-/ I attempted to balance it out by doing BBL's High & Tight and Turbo Jam Cardio Party 3 back to back.
Aunt Flow showed up on Friday. I blew off the scheduled Ab Jam workout in favor of dancing with the Black Eyed Peas on the Xbox. I think that burned more calories anyway since I ended up playing it for several hours. My pedometer counted a whopping 16,363 steps for that day!
Saturday was when the cramps kicked in, but I took midol and managed to pull myself together long enough to do that Ab Jam plus Turbo Sculpt, thus completing week 5 of the Brazil Butt Lift/Turbo Jam schedule. I even played DDR to get my step goal as well. I wish I could say my diet was as good. We picked persimmons from our tree out back and I ate a LOT of them. At least it was more nutritious than fritos :-/
Despite everyday this week feeling like Day 1, I kept pushing. I gained 2 lbs, but considering how bad my diet was this week, it could've been much worse. I know my exercise was spot on and too many calories are to blame.
So next week my goal is to dial in on my diet better. I'm trying not to think of this week as a failure but rather a learning experience. I'm proud of my exercise accomplishments and looking forward to making everyday of next week just as productive. I think that if I spread my meals out more evenly and not skip meals then I have a better chance of controlling my portions. Even if I have to set a reminder on my phone to alert me of mealtimes, I plan to eat at regular intervals as much as possible and not let myself get too hungry.
Oh, and I also plan to stay far away from wasp nests. The one-eye-swollen-shut look is not very flattering on me...
