gluten is the enemy

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

I have been missing in action for a while. A lot of changes have been happening for me. First of all I am homeschooling all 5 of my children. So that is taking up a ton of my time. I also have been gluten free since the beginning of summer. I started because my baby was getting a rash with his first foods and I realized it was passing thru the breastmilk as well. So I did it for him, but I was amazed at how much better I felt when I eat, not a bloated, stuffy feeling. So I would cheat every once in a while, but lately, It is not worth it to cheat because I think my body has healed itself, now I just avoid it. The benefits are wonderful. My stomach has shrunk, my clothes actually fit like they are supposed to and I lost weight too. My stomach has always been an issue and I know diet was a lot of it. I was trying so hard to eat right but we are all weak when it comes to favorite foods. I am still eating 6 times a day, so my metabolism is high. And my weakness is desserts, especially gluten free desserts. I have been doing a lot of baking lately which can get me in trouble. Other than that, yes, I do miss bread, but I also love mexican and rice, soo. I do not feel like I am missing too much. It can be a challenge when eating out, but I try to bring snacks on the road or fruit. If I take my kids to mcdonalds, I eat nothing. It takes strong will power, but even if I eat french fries, it is still not as yummy as a fresh picked apple I can sneak in my bag. I would encourage anyone to try gluten free. It is getting more awareness and not as hard to do. I am considering switching my whole family over. There is a lot of gas and tummy issues from everyone but me.

glad you're doing so well. you may want to get everyone tested. rememeber to stick to the whole food version of gluten free foods. some of the gluten free versions of food can be as scary as fat free, sugar free or other processed foods.

It sounds like it might be worth having your family tested for celiac disease.

Gluten is the enemy for celiacs; there is little reason to eliminate gluten without presence of an allergy.
