My poor dog is getting wider!

Friday, October 04, 2013

I just came home from the vet where I dropped $58.00 for allergy pills. Basically, they are Bendryl with steroids. The steroids are making her huge! The vet told me that the weight goes on fast and comes off slowly. Really? I didn't know that! Wow, what a revelation!
And I thought it was just the way I hold on to weight, only to find out the dog is a victim of slow loss too!

I wish she didn't have to be fat to stop itching, but it's worth it not to be miserable. I itch when I take the painkillers my doctor prescribed with my knee replacement. So, to keep from itching, I take an antihistamine along with it. That makes me drowsy and ready to sleep, but I don't want to sleep my life away. Soon I won't need anything for pain, and that is good news for me.

With some rehabs, it's no pain-no gain, and that's especially true with rehab after a replacement surgery. I'd rather go without pills than to itch, but my dog needs her pills to stop the itching. I'm ready for some cold temps to knock out some of these bugs and allergens. Here's hoping!

I am sorry that your poor dog is suffering from allergies - I have them and find that they really challenge me a lot.

Hi Lollie, our dog Snoopy is already overweight but has been on steroids a few times to help control his Allergies that cause his itching and Prednisone does help him but I hate the side effect of his gaining weight. So, last time our Vet said try giving him one or two regular benadryl pills and we did and it does help him but not nearly as much as the steroid did. So I hope your poor little pooch will get more relief when the weather cools down. We're still having summer like weather here and I'm ready for cooler temps. . .I hope your knee pain will be gone very soon. I'm scared to even take a painkiller for my painful knees and back as I know I have an "addictive" type personality and don't want to even try them. . .I'd rather deal with the pain with some over the counter meds. . .and do find that exercising more does help with the pain. Enjoy your Weekend. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
