My First Blog! How I Became a Foodie.

In August 2012 I joined Sparkpeople; overweight and bordering on obese, out of shape, depressed and cooking anything that was premade for me. My idea of cooking from scratch was wrapping up some pasta sauce, shredded cheese, canned pineapple and mushrooms, ham lunchmeat in a Pillsbury Cressant Roll.... mmmmm pizza.

It's been a little over a year now and I got my butt in gear. I lost 45 lbs, got fit and have tried hundreds of recipes, even creating a few of my own. Cooking has become one of my passions and I love playing artiste in the kitchen. Anything premade has become utterly unappealing. I cook from scratch and anything less won't do.

I went from the Pauper of frozen entrees to the Spinderella of cuisine design. I love searching and collecting recipes online and using them as inspiration to create my own unique dishes.

You won't find nutrition perfection here. I aim to eat healthy but enjoy all things in moderation. There are simply no foods that are off limits in my text.

    cooking and eating foods with a passion, I commend you.

    What I love most about being in maintenance is that I
    can enjoy foods more than ever before. In other words,
    pleasure without guilt. There are so many wonderful
    healthy ways to prepare foods. And by using portion
    control and Spark tracking and I can satisfy my love
    of being thin and my joy of being well-fed.

    I'm grinnin' like crazy that you really are going to blog about this! I was a restaurant-oriented foodie before starting on here, and am still learning to cook (yeah, ok, I'm old - I'm a slow starter!) and caught on really quickly that there would always be great info, links, and tips in your messages on the fora.

    I'm getting better at tweaking recipes to suit our tastes, but still need that "starting point" for inspiration --- and have used your tips many times as the "starting point"!

    Good for you. When you cook from scratch you can eliminate anything that doesn't appeal to you and for me that means salt. I have always cooked from scratch, but rarely use a recipe or if I do, I always have to amend it. Lots of recipes I figure are just a starting line lol.
