October was not a good month for me as far as goals or my personal life. .I think one reflected the other. I really had a setback after my seizure at the end of Sept. I was very frustrated and angry that I had had another one. It left me with a broken nose, and badly bruised ribs.
So, I was unable to work out because of my ribs. I also ate too much, something I do when I feel down about things. But it was something I had not done for a long, long time. Needless to say the feeling of guilt was knocking at my door and walked right in, uninvited. So when I was weighed at the dr.'s last week, I had gained around 7 lbs. I felt terrible. Of course, I feel like I have failed myself. My clothes fit tighter, and not so comfortable. But....I do have goals for this month of November.
1.) I would like to regain control of my eating habits.

2.) Do not condemn myself if I fall. Just pick myself up when I hit the floor.

3.) Workout again, but do not overdo.

4.) Reach out to others when I feel down. Don't be afraid to ask for help or admit that I am only human. Being human means making mistakes.

5.) Learning by those mistakes.

6.) Lose at least 3-4 of those lbs. that I gained.
Normally, whenever I have felt this down about myself, I always did a wonderful job of isolating myself, completely. But I have not done that. I have gone to school to be with those kids, so that is another thing that has been so great about working as a foster grandma. I have also been able to go online almost everyday to SP. That is also another reason I love this site so much. So, my friends, I owe you, for you have given me a reason to go on, and not hide away from life. I thank you all for that.

Barbie, I know what you mean about the kids keeping you going, we foster 2 children in our home currently, and have adopted one little 5 year old. I think the stress leading up to the adoption added to weight gain, and was a distraction from working out. Am back on track now, and one of my goals is to have our foster (soon to be adopted) daughter run in a 5k with us. While I am overweight (thyroid issues etc make it difficult) I am active to take care of our horses, chickens etc, and did run a 5k (jogged more like it, not run), I didn't lose weight from it. But it is important to me to show her to keep active. She was very innactive, had lived in apartments and not moved around much all her life. She has been here a year now & is growing by leaps and bounds. I am doing these things for me, but also for her and our newly adopted son. We all need some inspiration to keep going, & then sometimes we become the inspiration for others emoticon

This is great! I really like your perspective. #2 is the key to anything successful we do hear because we will fall from time to time. If you can get that down, you have found a big key. That kind of leads in to #5 which is also crucial to success. Good luck with this, I know you can do it!

I especially like # 2 and 5. It's so easy to let a bad day spiral into a bad week, a bad week to a bad month, etc. It's important to not let the bad experiences define us.

Your work with those grade school children is a blessing to both you and them. Keep up the great work.

I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to have sudden seizures. It sounds like you are trying really hard now to get back on track and stay there. I get depression and like you I isolate myself so congratulations again for fighting the urge to just pull up those covers. emoticon

You can only do what you can do and you are right not to condemn yourself. Your plan is good, go for it.

I'm sorry about your seizure. I'm also sorry you had hurt yourself so badly. The emotional eating is understandable. Hopefully next time you'll do better with that. I'm glad you didn't hide away after your seizure and that you continued to go to the school to be a foster grandma. I think you're doing really well overall! The important thing is that you are picking yourself up after you stumbled a bit on your journey. I think you have made some good goals to achieve this month! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm sorry you had a seizure and a tough month as a result of it. It's perfectly understandable, but the important thing is that you didn't give up! I also gained and my clothes fit tighter, but we can't feel guilty anymore...we have to move forward and find success again! You made some great goals...I'm glad you aren't pushing yourself, but taking baby steps. We can do this together! I'm here for you if you need to talk!

I have found that many people have setbacks in their weight loss journey after they experience a difficulty or something goes wrong in their lives. Your blog might be a source of inspiration for those people on how to pick up the oars and restart the weight loss journey!

I admire your determination to continue and accomplish your goals.

Great that you didn't isolate yourself! It is hard not to especially if we have been doing it for years. Great goals for this month! Remember "Failure comes not from falling down but from refusing to get back up!"

Good for you for not isolating!! That's powerful when one has chronic medical problems. I have MS and when I have exacerbations, it's easy to isolate so I understand. So again, you are emoticon emoticon
I hope you are feeling better, my friend, and God bless you. emoticon emoticon
