Day 20

Today I am thankful for free treadmills. That's right! I finally got it and jammed it in my house. I set it up today and took her for a test run. I was quite pleased. It's a little more narrow than I'm used to (after all, it's for home use, not a gym). But, as long as I can raise and lower the incline, speed it up and slow it down, and keep track of the time, then I'm good to go. And this treadmill does all that, so woo! I did my training on it today since it was warm outside. Having it keep a steady pace involves a lot of benefits for me: I know how fast I'm going, I don't tire out too quickly, I can avoid shin splints, and it's easier on my asthma (which is uncontrolled at the present :-S). I also don't have to jump over puddles, avoid uneven ground, and dodge piles of garbage or broken glass on my canal route.

Unfortunately, that also means I average a slower pace. While I've been doing around a 16 minute mile outdoors, I averaged a 19 minute mile on the treadmill. So, now I know I can go a little faster than I thought and be okay. And I'll work on controlling my asthma with my meds... that the doc forgot to call in to the pharmacy... and then the doc's office was closed today mysteriously... so I'll try to get all that sorted tomorrow.

Lou was curious about the new treadmill while it was off and unplugged. As soon as I turned that thing on he was all "WTF!!!!" And I didn't see him again until I turned it back off and unplugged it after my training.

Congrats on the free treadmill! I have a love/hate relationship with mine, but I am so grateful to have it. Although where I live we exercise indoors because of the extreme cold. emoticon
