2014 the year of the Cardio Walk

Woohoo! I love my pedometer. I never realized how motivating it can be to keep track of your steps and watch them mount up faster. emoticon

My company signed up with Virgin Health Miles back in 2011 and gave every employee an opportunity to get a free pedometer. It's a pretty basic pedometer. It just counts steps and active minutes. Active minutes happen whenever you take more than 135 steps in one minute.

When I first got my pedometer I didn't really have much of fitness plan. In 2011 I only averaged 3911 steps a day. Many days I didn't even remember to wear the pedometer. emoticon

Virginhealthmiles.com tracks your steps from the time you get your pedometer. They call that your lifetime average. They always show us how our lifetime average compares to
*everyone in your company (Current average 8090)
*All the women on Virginhealthmiles (Current average 8158) My husband gets compared to all the men and their average is 10,101
*everyone on Virginhealthmiles who is your age. (Current average 8837)

Some time in 2012 I decided to beat the averages. That's a pretty lofty goal for someone who is starting from an average of 3911 and has a job that sits me in front of a computer for 9 hours a day. I started by resolving to walk at least 30 minutes a day and by the end of 2012 I managed to raise my lifetime average to 6755. emoticon

Last year I found some friends who were willing to walk with me. We usually were able to get away to walk for 45 minutes or so.

On 11/14/2013 I got my lifetime average past the average for my company emoticon
On 12/4/2013 I got my lifetime average past the average for the women on VirginHealthMiles emoticon

This year my lifetime average is already up to 8261. My goal is to raise my average over the average for people my age by June this year.

I also want to increase the number of days when I really cardio walk. I currently average 14 active minutes a day. I can't usually get active minutes when I walk with my friends but there are at least 3 days a week when I can't get anyone to walk with with me. On those days I can cardio walk. I'd like to get my active minutes average above 20 by the end of the year.
