The following list was adapted from "Some Body to Love" by Leslea Newman 1991 (Chicago). Prepared by the B.C. Eating Disorders Association.

Ways to Nurture Ourselves Without Food

Go shopping
Practice juggling
Buy yourself flowers
Curl up with a good book
Go for a walk
Take photos
Colour in a colouring book
Browse in a book store
Go "people watching"
Kiss and hug your pets
Go swimming
Write a letter
Massage your feet
Take a bath with or without a book
Love something - an animal or a person or an object
Make a list of everything you like about yourself
Go to the park and feed the animals
Dress up for yourself and stay home or go to the movies
Go out on the porch and write in the dark
Make a list of affirmations or read one already made up
Anything else you can think of or like to do
Breathe deeply
Go for a bike ride
Meditate or do yoga
Lie around and don't feel guilty
Ask to be held
Punch your pillow
Take a hot shower
Practice karate
Paint, draw or play with clay
Go to a museum
Take a walk with a dog or alone
Take a nap
Listen to music
Burn incense
Visit or call a close friend
Read your favourite children's book
Talk to a close friend about how you feel
Hug someone you wouldn't ordinarily hug
Put music on and dance around your room
Take a long drive in your car with your favourite tapes
Light lots of candles around your room and drink tea
Take a walk in the woods or somewhere peaceful
Organize your room, clean out old junk or decorate it with new things

I hope something on this list speaks to you. For myself when I am bored or sad the first thing I think of is food. So, it is paramount that I have a list like this so I can find better inspiration than chewing! emoticon

    Wow, that is a list.. surely something for everybody.

    Hope your week is going well.
    Snowing here about an hour ago I finished muscling my snowblower about, to clear my drive of the first half of the storm. Found some icy spots under the snow, but held on tight to the snowblower and kept my feet beneath me. Everything is so nicely white right now... but soon the sand and salt on the road will cause the roads to turn brown, then the plows will throw that yuck to the side and the dirty side of the storm will blossom in full glory.... Ah well. I will enjoy the pretty while it lasts and tolerate the brown when it comes. The Spring GREENS cannot be far from here... two months closer than when we were in December!
