Miracles do exist?

Monday, February 24, 2014

My Honey bear was given the awful diagnoisis of pancreatic cancer by two vets. The time ahead would be grim. Or would it? We spent two weeks giving her subdermal fluid and pain meds. We coaxed her appetite back with chicken legs and rump roast. Now that is her daily diet. As she has gotten more active, bright eyed, growling at her brother, gaining weight, she is 75% of her old self. I thought that since cancer cells thrive on sugar we would stop all carbs. Now that it is five weeks since the grim news and she improves daily I think something the second vet makes more sense. Cushings disease. She had been acting so hungry for well over a year. She chewed through the plastic food container to get more kibble, she got into the trash when we left or were in bed. Cushings can be brought on by long term steroid use, which she has been on. I stopped giving her those prednisone. She use to throw up if she didn't have them. Now with the fresh cooked meat and a few bits of mashed up veggies she has thrown up in a month. So we'll see what the next days and weeks hold!

Good luck - I'm glad she is feeling much better. I hope the one vet was wrong about the pancreatic cancer.

Glad she is doing better and enjoying her home-cooked food. I don't know if it would apply to dogs, but just read something on asparagus killing cancer cells so might be worth a try since you are feeding some veggies and the meat. Hope that all continues going well for her.
