Spark"ing through Disney

It is pretty much the only place I go for vacation. I'm going to do this in two parts, or its going to get pretty long. This Blog is about adapting my vacation style and Sparkpeople into a pretty successful trip. I will post a Blog about the rest of the trip details after. To start, here is what I had booked for a vacation package, 7 nights at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort with base tickets (One theme park per day) and free basic dining plan. The Disney Dining Plan includes a snack item, a counter service meal, a table service meal each night you are booked. Also a refillable mug for coffee tea and soda at the hotel. Table service meals include entrée, dessert and non alcoholic beverage. Its actually a lot more food than it sounds like.
So for food it was pretty easy to keep under control. The only part that was high was my sodium. My counter service meals were a mickey waffle with strawberries, a smoked half chicken with baked beans, a smoked turkey sandwich with german potato salad, scrambled eggs with a biscuit and fruit, egg beater and ham omlette, and my one big splurge was a Casey's chili cheese dog. My table service meals I kept to grilled food. Disney will go out of their way to accommodate special dietary needs, especially if you attach them to you reservation. I did not do that, I just made the best choices from what was offered. I did request sauces on the side as much as possible. For dessert most places offered a sugar free option. Some of my favorite meals were a grilled NY strip steak with red wine sauce and Yorkshire pudding; Surf and Turf with Chilean skirt steak, BBQ shrimp and grilled corn; and pineapple macadamia nut pancakes.
My main activity for the week was walking. Disney involves a lot of walking. I downloaded a pedometer ap for my phone before I left and it worked great. I had several days over 18,000 steps!! One of my favorite parts about Disney is walking around and enjoying the extra details all around. You don't see a lot of unfinished areas like you do elsewhere. We were there the week before the Flower and Garden Festival so many of the character topiaries were already set up at EPCOT. Walking through the different areas of the World Showcase is another favorite pastime. Morocco being my favorite. So I guess I'll end this part with a photo of me sitting in front of one of the fountains in the Moroccan Pavilion.
