I've Been Going Up - It's Time to Go Down (weight)!

It’s amazing how a few unexpected things can really change your habits. I unfortunately had a setback over the last year and I’m trying to get back to what was once a habit. We have also been dealing with getting a stray cat we took in and our other cats to get along (somewhat maybe!).

So, what was I doing that was pretty much a habit and I didn’t expect it to change? I walked during my breaks and/or some of lunch time too. I did strength training but not as much as I was doing when I had a trainer – still I was getting better at it. Problem started when it seemed my acid reflux was really acting up again. Christmas Holiday’s and all the treats I’m not used to eating always seem to do it. This time it wasn’t clearing up. Ended up I needed to have my gall bladder out. So after feeling miserable for several months I ended up having my gallbladder out. No exercise for a while after that. Finally I started feeling better and could exercise but ended up smashing my toe into a heavy duty plastic gate we were using in the house and must have broken my little toe. I did not go to the dr and have them tape up my little toe but it took 2 months at least to get out of the really loose sandals By this point I’ve gone several more months without exercise. Even when I started using the treadmill again it was at a pretty slow pace. My work break walks started up again a lot later. Very sporadic. DH and I go to the gym and I usually use the treadmill. I realized I should be doing the elliptical and recumbent along with treadmill and up the intensity in spurts. I was starting to improve and got the cold from a bad place. Even after 2 weeks I’m still tired in the afternoon and evening. I think I’m getting better now, if not I better go to the doctor! I have actually been doing better this past week watching the amount of food I ate and think I finally started to feel better because I was really hungry today!!! Unfortunately I’d like not to be THAT hungry. Have to curb my chocolate craving too.

So I’ve been doing a couple challenges and have started getting more strength training in and getting more walks in now (or cardio on the elliptical or recumbent). Should mention it helps doing something you like. For some reason I feel like doing the elliptical is too hard but once I get on it I start challenging myself to go 20 seconds faster or turn up the resistance for 20 seconds and do that off and on. The time seems to go by quickly and I’m actually glad I did it. It’s just getting on it more that I have to work on! It’s slow going but I’m going to keep at it. There will be slips and days I don’t get many steps in but I’ll work on it. Getting my motivation back!

    Well, you've pretty much laid out the cycle of life. We go strong, we have a few setbacks. If they continue, before we can regroup, we can find ourselves off kilter, off schedule, and even completely off track. Happens to the best of us.
    The Upshot is, you still have Sparkpeople, And all of us who come with it. So you check in, blog about it, get some support, and then grab the bull by the horns once more.
    It's all about staying connected to what works, and it sure sounds like you are doing that.
    If we can remember, it's all part of a cycle, then we can get ourselves back into the groove, which felt so great, while we ate well, and kept track, and exercised daily.

    I know all of this too well, I have setbacks myself. And some last far too long for me. But I'm slowly getting on track myself. We're gonna do this Anna, and we're gonna be SO PROUD of ourselves, when we do!!!!! Keep the faith!

    Good for you with challenging yourself on the Elliptical...I do the same on the treadmill...I need to get back to the gym.....I should do the challenge on the Elliptical too but that machine and I have a love hate relationship...I am not a huge fan of it as I find it hurts my hips anyways end of rant.... emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
