It was lovely and sunny this morning when I got off work, I have a new jogging outfit, and I was feeling a bit adventurous, so I decided to change up my route a bit. I jogged the first 1.5mi as usual, then detoured over to the local park, which includes trails and a paved path through a new growth redwood grove. I jogged the paved path - which is about a mile, I think - twice (well, much of it - there's a very steep incline that I couldn't quite manage to jog up ^^;), and jogged the first half a third time, then went off the paved path at the base of the steep incline and took the scenic route back up. I did pause briefly to snap a couple of pictures, although I kind of wish I'd taken more - there was so much gorgeous scenery I passed!
^ Not even close to the prettiest parts, just happened to be near the end of the path of my last lap, so I had already slowed down.
I've been meaning to wander around this park for ages, but somehow never got around to it. I'll definitely have to fit this route into my routine more often!
In workplace related news, I came in first in the step tracking competition for Week 1. Week 2 is ending at 11:59pm tonight - so far I have 24k since midnight today, and around 150k total for Mon-Sat. I'm hoping that's enough to keep me in first place a second week in a row. If not, I'm going to have to seriously step up my game.
Or step down, rather. I've noticed these cheapo pedometers we were given aren't very reliable, especially for jogging, alas. And brisk walking is out - one gets the most steps walking at a slow to moderate pace, which annoys me, because I want to be moving *faster,* not slower. XD I've been considering getting a "smart" tracker, like a Fitbit or the SPAT, but... do I really want to throw down $50-60 for a device that isn't going to have much practical use outside of this month-long work event? Probably not.
Hopefully, though, I'll still be ahead, so I won't have to give up jogging for the rest of the month in favor of a 3mph walking pace.
Oh, and as of my last weigh-in, I'm below 200lbs. For the first time since I was, like, 10.
Life is good, my friends.
