I refuse to let the scale own me.

Thursday, May 29, 2014

I have been really bummed out for the last three weeks and I know why even though I'm having trouble admitting it. After over two years of maintaining a one pound range around my goal weight for some reason the scale has started to move in the wrong direction. In the last three weeks I've gained 3 pounds.

I know that doesn't sound like the end of the world but I am a person who really respects trends and I am trending upwards.

Logically, I know that this small increase is not really a trend yet. There are plenty of Sparkers that swing back and forth by a lot more and probably hate me for appearing to find maintenance so easy. I am so much luckier than so many of my Spark Friends. But, since I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong I'm afraid it's not going to stop.

So I've switched up my diet and fitness. I've added some more strength exercises and I got back out all of my measuring stuff so I can go back to stricter portion control.

I am going to step away from scale for a couple of weeks between 5% challenges since it is messing with me so much and hopefully I'll be able to get back where I belong.

"...and I got back out all of my measuring stuff so I can go back to stricter portion control. "

You got me there. I, too, am not comfortable with the 3 lbs that the scale claimed were hanging off my skeleton the other day. Nope. nada. not good.

And I got out my measuring stuff this week too.

Thanks for the blog love, btw. and hugs to you about your dad. I miss my irascible old daddy too. A lot.

    Hugs to you

    Hang in there,
You got a plan, just start taking actions.

I understand your concern. Some of us got fat in 5 lb.-increments. You're aware. Make sure you're drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, monitoring calories, sodium, etc, and exercising. It might sort itself in a few weeks. If not, perhaps a trip to the doctor is in order.

Hang in there, my friend. This too shall pass and most likely you'll figure out what went into creating the issue and figure out how to keep it from happening again. Enjoy the break between challenges and YES - I find the measuring/tracking is the first thing I like to stop doing and the most important thing to keep me moving in the direction I prefer.

Hugs...so important for us to understand our own bodies and to make choices along the way that are best for us. I know for you 3 pounds is a big deal and think you are making the right choice to reevaluate now before it continues. I agree that stepping away from the scale, changing up your exercise and eating and being detailed in your tracking will help. YOU GO GIRL!! Hoping that your effort puts your right back on your stable weight maintenance path. Staying healthy is a life long journey!!
    You can do it...Smiles Barb

It may just be time to switch up what you're doing every day, eating and exercising. Do something different--not necessarily more. Work different muscles -- eat some red beans & rice (that New Orleans influence is still with me :). And do you know barometric pressure affects scales? Don't stress -- may make you start mindless snacking. :)

You know your body, and a sudden increase in weight over 3 weeks is something to take note of. You are doing exactly the right thing, though. Change things up and don't look at the scale every day. You'll be back down to your goal weight in no time at all!

I can certainly understand what you mean. It's good to catch it early enough though to where you hopefully will not have to do as much as you would had you gained more. Changing what you are doing certainly can't help. Good luck!

I know you'll figure it out and probably already have (by changing things up).

I am with you!!! It is so easy to watch the scale creep up. I too have been good for a year but I need to reassess right now before it gets out of hand.

I think a lot of us are trending the wrong direction right now. I'm right there with you. I think changing up things should stir the pot and hopefully produce positive results!

I can understand why you'd be bummed and a little bothered by that. Especially since you've been so very stable in your weight. Just don't panic! Keep an eye on it but don't stress. Sounds like you've got a good plan in place. I know tracking is helping me a lot. My "eyeballs" aren't as accurate as I like to think...
