Saturday I hit up Whole Foods for the first time. I really wish I hadn't been short on time, I could have spent a couple of hours in there going down every aisle, reading labels, and really getting an idea of what I can utilize for my money. I fell in love with this store! The closest one to me is in Vancouver unfortunately, almost an hour away, so I can' t go that often, but I will go back at the end of the month to stock up. A few things that I really liked...
1. Bulk bulk bulk. From unsalted nuts to greens and interesting sides like marinated mushrooms I was able to buy just a bit of a bunch of things to see what I like and would like to incorporate into my meals.
2. Cheap cheap cheap. I did not anticipate good prices. Quite the opposite, I figured everything would be super pricey. Example...the same amount of organic spinach I buy in a package at Superstore for $3.99 was $1.38 in bulk at Whole Foods. And the "Food Should Taste Good" multigrain chips I buy at Superstore for around $5 was $3.50 at Whole Foods.
3. Organic rotisserie chicken. I was able to buy a fully cooked, BBQ, organic rotisserie chicken for $12.99. If I go down to my local organic butcher, a full uncooked chicken is about $20 and I have to do the work.
4. Bison!! They have bison burgers and just ground bison at a much better price than my local butcher, but it's still local. I love to support my local farmers, but I also have a kid to put through college.
There you have it. Just a few of the reasons why I loved it and why I'll be back with a bigger cart. I'll be looking for more coconut yogurt too.
