Miss my little Josie

Last week was really difficult for me. One of our chihuahuas (Josie) passed unexpectedly. I've always known when a pet has been sick and had the opportunity to say good-bye. To not have that time is devastating. She had had a fever which we'd been treating with antibiotics and had gone to the vet earlier that day (and the 2 days prior) and we were excited that the fever had broke and hoped her appetite would return. (She had stopped eating a few days earlier) That night she ate her dinner. I was so happy. Then, a few hours later, she was gone. She followed me down the hall when I went to shower just as she did every night and when I got out, she had passed. The emergency vet discovered she had a tumor on her spleen that had ruptured. She bled into her abdomen. We did not even know she had the tumor. The only comforting part is that she did not have any pain. After the tumor ruptured, she just got weaker so it was quick and painless. For her. For me, it was extremely painful, like losing a part of myself. All she ever wanted was to cuddle and I miss her so very much!
