Almost Down To The Wire

So, my hernia surgery is scheduled for August 21st. That’s just a month away and the surgeon would like me to lose as much weight as possible before then. This surgery is going to be hard, taking about 6 hours and involving some pretty close work. Succeed or fail, this is probably the last chance I’ll have for a repair of my abdominal wall. The surgeon says there’s too much damage already and this repair will, literally, leave no room for future attempts at closing any new hernias that develop. Losing more weight will increase my chances of success. After the surgery, it will be paramount to keep it off and lose more.
In the past few weeks I have only managed to lose 1 lb. a week and one week I didn’t lose any at all. Not that that isn’t good. It’s definitely an improvement over not losing anything. But at this point I’d like to move that up a notch and make it 2 lbs. a week. I know I can’t increase my calorie burn by much. I’ve managed to get my walking up to just over 2 miles up and down the hills that make up my neighborhood every morning but my hips aren’t allowing me to increase beyond that right now. There isn’t much use in going to a gym if my torn up abdomen won’t allow me to do most of the exercises.
So the only other approach to the problem is to decrease calories, and I’m already at 1200-1300 a day, the lowest anyone can go without slowing down their metabolism. But this is important enough to my future that I’m just going to have to break that rule for the next month.
