Food Revamp - Whole 30 Plan

I wanted to write a blog to talk about my latest "sparked" activity. I am a big fan of BOBCATGIRL76's blog on Sparkpeople (Seriously - she's awesome - go read her Sparkpage and then come back). She started a Whole30 program and has been blogging about it. I, being the curious person that I am, started researching it.

The Whole 30 program comes from a book called It Starts With Food. I'm not all the way through the book yet, but it's been a great read. It explains a lot of the science of food and details just why processed food is so bad for you. A lot of this I knew the basics of from my time on Sparkpeople, but the explanations are really well done. You can find the detailed plan at their website: whole30.com But the short version is that for 30 days you cut out processed food, added sugar, grains, legumes, dairy, and alcohol. You also cut way back on fruit. Lots of veggies, lots of protein. It's a reset of your digestive system and not only will you lose some weight (it varies person to person) and inches, it has a huge list of other health benefits as well.

I figure - I can do anything for 30 days. So I did a lot of research on the plan Friday and went shopping for all of the food Saturday to have a Sunday start date. My buddy Shelly and I went out to dinner & to see Rent Saturday to celebrate her new job. After I got home from the show I put on Pandora and made a complete mess of my kitchen cooking. Saturday night I cooked up: roasted spaghetti squash, chicken thighs, italian shredded pork (started in the crockpot), chocolate chili, browned ground beef for salads and such, green beans and broccoli. I don't have to cook the rest of the week!!!

I do have two weekends where I'm going to be around family where I'm really going to have to watch to make sure I stick to the plan. It'll be a little tougher than planned but I should be able to do it. I took some before pictures and can't wait to take the after (which I will more than likely share along with measurement changes).

Hope everyone is doing well - hard to believe it's going to be August here in a few days.

    I've been following Bobcatgirl as well, and really intrigued by Whole 30. Going to get the book and start reading this month. Let us know how this challenge goes for you! emoticon

    Wow, sounds like a challenge! Good luck, and definitely keep us updated. It'll be interesting to hear how not only your body changes, but your energy level as well, especially since you've already taken on a healthy lifestyle without Whole 30.
