There really are some great people out there!!

Friday, August 08, 2014

My daughter is at her marching band practice today for color guard, as she has been all week. It's at the high school and they are there all day with a break for lunch. The school serves free lunch for any child up to age 18. So I guess a lot of the students do that instead of bring their lunch, my daughter prefers to bring hers since she is a picky eater. The only problem is that they do not serve lunch on Friday. So there were about 10 students who didn't have lunch with them today. Our band director send out a group message about these students and the number of parents that volunteered to bring food up to them was overwhelming. I wasn't able to because I was at physical therapy with my son, or I would have too. I guess they ended up getting tacos from Taco Bell so nobody would be hungry. That was so nice of them!

This overwhelming show of support totally made my day. I was so happy to see that people are willing to go out of their way to help out. I'm so excited that my daughter gets to be part of this great extended family. This is her first year and I can't wait to be associated with this wonderful group of people.

Thanks for reading my story. I hope you have a wonderful day

What a nice story. Band parents as a rule as very caring and helpful.
Three of my grandchildren are in marching band. A great activity to be part of.

When something like this comes up, most people do the right thing.
I've always had the same kind of group-looking-after-its-own response from the swim team and the drama club. It's comforting.
Great thing for your children to see!

That's awesome! I know a lot of schools that I, my siblings, as well as my nephews and nieces have been to where situations like that have been horrible and no one really helped except in rare moments. It's really touching that people would do that!

That is a heart warming tale. When my older children were in high school I found that kind of "extended family" in two different places; Band and the ROTC. I hope that you and your daughter enjoy your involvement in the color guard during the upcoming school year. Post us some pictures =)

The other people are great:It is the kids' parents that scare me. When they signup for this, isn't there a form that tells the parents that there is no lunch provided that one day? No way would an institution NOT inform them..
My daughter attended this for eight years and every year the form stated what we were responsible for..

I guess some parents get it, others don't..
Your daughter had the best meals there, I'll bet!! emoticon
