Don't mean to complain

Monday, August 18, 2014

For the first time in almost two years, my weight seems to be tipping up. Not much, but I ended the the Summer 5% challenge weighing more than I started with. I have to concentrate on the fact that my clothes still fit and I still feel great. But I also have to admit that the scale seems to mean more to me than it should. I have to concentrate on the fact that I am walking briskly more than I ever have before in my life and I've been able to get some running in too. I continue to go to Vinyasa yoga sessions and my yoga instructor is taking us to heights I've never been to before. I can plank for more than 2 minutes and get down to Chataranga and hold it for a while which I couldn't do before so I must be getting more flexible.

But why oh why isn't the scale cooperating?

Ugh, I totally empathize with your situation - there are months and months where I KNOW I'm doing everything right, but the scale doesn't agree.

Measurements - track your measurements. Sometimes, I find I lose inches even if I don't lose pounds.

At least losing inches (or half inches) is motivating, right?

It's taken me a long time to realize that scales don't tell us much. I no longer rely on the number only. What's important to me is how my clothes feel and if I'm improving on my exercise.

You should celebrate that you're walking more briskly--that's fantastic! Keep pushing yourself with your exercise, and the scale will eventually come to its senses. If it's like mine, it will happen when you least expect it.

Don't let scale rule you!!!! You are so much healthier than you were, and that is the most important thing!!

It sounds like this was a tough challenge for a lot of people. I'm right there with you...I crept up rather than going down. I know it is cliche, but maybe you are gaining more muscle mass right now. I know that yoga does work our muscles in ways we cannot even imagine until we start doing it.
