September 2014 Weigh-in
Saturday, September 27, 2014
Back in mid August, I became a born-again smoothie junkie (2 on most days, 3 on weekends). I bought one of those really small blenders that makes 1-2 portions of any given smoothie recipe. My weight had been consistently 204-207 and I was really tired of being in that rut.
One thing which a lot of non-veggie eaters on YouTube pointed out, is that a lot of the vegetables get really drowned out of the taste equation when combined with 2 pieces of fruit, vanilla flavored protein powder and high anti-oxidant powder/seeds.
The net result is that I've eaten more vegetables this past month than the entire decade of the 2000's. I am not exaggerating.
Regarding exercise, I made the decision to make it a leveled self competition. The initial goal was to start out 4 times a week for 20 minutes. Every week I accomplished this, I would add 2 minutes. If I miss that goal, I subtract a minute. This morning I go from a 24 minute workout to 26 minutes (4 times of those this week and I'm up to 28).
I made some extremely controversial decisions by SparkPeople standards. I:
-decided to focus on doing stuff rather than restricting myself (focus on not doing stuff)
-didn't think in terms of falling off and getting back on wagons
-made lower quality foods taste bad by introducing more healthy foods (not using willpower and self-denial)
-refused to play the game of feel bad, blog about it, deal with cheap platitudes, continue to feel bad, etc..
-allowed myself to be upset with myself, if I was disappointed with myself. The fact that we all have bad days doesn't mean I have to like or accept them. I know that that makes people uncomfortable, so I kept to myself.
Bottom Line: I decided not to "Just Do It". I decided to go for it.
And went for it I did.
I decided not to weigh myself for the entire month except for today. Until yesterday, as far as I'm concerned I was 206.6. I plan to do the same thing until October 25. Basically last Saturday of any month.
(Down 4.2 pounds)
7.4 pounds to go
The body-fat measurement on my scale has always been suspect when it comes to weight loss. I look considerably more toned, especially in the neck, shoulders and arms. The really comfortable jeans from July and August are too loose. The ones that fit just right or were slightly tight now fit slightly loose and just right respectively.
Today I am going to the mall and wearing 36" waist jeans for the first time in too long. They finally fit again (a bit snug when fresh out of the dryer, but not bad now). The 38" jeans just don't work.
If I lose weight and am happy with the weight loss, I will blog about it. My five years on SparkPeople has taught me that this is a really safe and healthy place to share my successes. If not, we'll try again for November.
I don't plan to do very much differently, exercise wise. Add two minutes to each workout session every week. four times a week, maybe five if I feel I'm even more awesome than usual. I will up the intensity when the routines start to feel non-challenging. Or maybe do different exercises. I dunno.
- TD Out!!
