There are approximately 20 people in my Financial Peace class. Over half are women. What I find surprising is that every one of the women and some of the men said that the area where they spend the most money--sometimes without even thinking about it--is for food. (I thought it was only people like me who struggles with over eating, but many people in that class are in great shape!)

But most of them spend on grocery shopping and restaurants, and especially those days when they are stressed or don't want to cook, or want to be social. It's all about food. It proves the statement that having money or the lack of having money has an emotional impact on us.

It's definitely the first place to look in terms of cost cutting. Cooking from scratch is cheap compared to nearly anything packaged, and it's so much better for you.

When we equate food with fun, those of us that are compromised are doomed. Food is nourishment. Food is fuel. And that's all it is and all it should be. I am always surprised to see people barely scraping by financially with a Starbucks in-hand every morning. Small things do add up!

Also that many people, regardless of size, use the same comfort system.
