You are an inspiration!

Friday, October 03, 2014

It's gonna be a hot one today. In the 90's at least. I decided that I would get my run in early. I usually run around lunch time but today that would be pretty brutal. Today I finished week 4 day 3 of C25k and I knew it would be challenging without the sun trying to melt me into a puddle on top of everything else.

I'm out there doing my thing, chugging along. The intervals are getting longer, to the point that I am wondering it the app has stopped working, because should't the chick be telling me to *computerized voice* "Walk now." already?! Then I hear the best announcement of the set "One minute left." Whew! I'm dying.

There is a lady getting out of her car a ways ahead of me. She's in her work out clothes and looks up and see's me. I'm huffing and puffing. I smile. She smiles and says, "Good morning!" I return the pleasantry.

Then she says, "You're an inspiration!" With that little sentence she made my day.

The brief exchange concluded with me breathlessly saying "I only have one minute left!" and her reply "You're doing great!"

That really made me feel proud of myself and put a big smile on my face.

I wanted to pass it on to all of you. YOU guys are an inspiration and YOU are doing great!
Thanks for all the support everyone.

Have a great weekend!

I am so proud of you. I have yet been able to run past 2 minutes at a time. I won't give up my goal of running 5k by next June and you inspire me to keep trudging along until I can do it.

You are awesome kiddo...........thanks for always being there at my BLOGS and making me feel so good about myself.
    You are a great friend.

That's fantastic! Random kindness from strangers... I have a vivid memory from about 20-25 yrs ago. I was biking home, stopped at a traffic light, and a car full of young guys was stopped next to me. One rolled down his window to say "No one as fat as you should be on a bike!" I was mortified! Random meanness from strangers. I think I'll replace that memory with your story from today, it's a way better version of humankind!

Congratulations. I was out for a run last weekend and got a thumbs up from a woman in a car who let me cross a big intersection. It definitely put a spring in my step.

I so love everything about this blog! I am even breaking my "no posting on SP until Sunday" rule for you (I am up to my neck in backlogged academic work at the moment). First of all, it is wonderful that you not only took on the challenge of a running program but that you are sticking to it! Secondly, completing week 4 is a huge accomplishment. So congratulations for THAT. Be extra proud of yourself. And finally, I can't think of anyone more deserving than you of the experience you had today with a complete stranger. Your comments to me here are so thoughtful and I always feel happy after reading them. You can definitely add me to your growing list of admirers!

    Consider yourself hugged!

Here in Atlanta, we have a group, The Atlanta Track Club, that promotes running throughout the area. Though it wouldn't sound like I should be, I am a member and have been for probably 7 or 8 years. There are elite runners at the top and people like me at the bottom. I have been lapped on a 5 mile run at about mile 3 when the other runners were doing 10 (so they were at 8). And, more than one used some of their breath while running all out to say "Way to go! Keep it up!" I absolutely love this group because, more often than not, many give that experience you got today. A few years back, when my son was a bit chubby and slow and I could set the pace, one of the volunteers shouted at him "One day you might be the next Usain Bolt." Neither one of us had any idea who he was at the time, but it lifted his spirits.

That experience you had makes me really happy for you and gives me faith that there still are a lot of good people out there who want to see others succeed.

And, while he is no Usain Bolt, my kids and I are running a 10k tomorrow and my son is shooting to break 40 minutes. I have no doubt the encouragement he received from people like the lady you met today helped get him there.

You are an inspiration! Keep it up!
