Spark Tracker vs FITBIT ZIP trial day 3 review

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Well, yesterday did go a bit better....although I wasn't able to track any better with the SPARK Tracker on my shoe (front toe portion of heels). As soon as I saw that my FITBIT ZIP reached over 3000 and the SPARK hadn't lit up more than 1 light (between 500 and 1000 steps of my 10000 step goal), I immediately put the SPARK on my waist band of my skirt because I didn't want to put 2 more hours at home in order to get the goal.

By the time I got home I had 10486 FIT BIT steps and only 3956 Spark Tracker steps. I changed clothes (jeans w/pockets from Sunday) and began moving again. 80 minutes later:

Tue 10/28/14
FitBit information:
steps 24524
cals 3611 total
miles 13.37
minutes 119 intense 66 mod 95 light = 185 minutes of FITBIT all day activity time

SparkTracker information.
steps 11788
cals 3480 total 1077 wo
miles 17 7.68 wo
minutes 358 120 wo

Today I put it on my waist. I'm still showing a descrepancy in numbers. I'll know how much of descrepancy after I walk home. I figure I'll map the distance and calibrate to see if things change for THURSDAYs stats!.

Only thing I can figure is the SPARK tracker is TRULY just an activity tracker -- RUN/WALK not in place, you have to move some back and forth. Doesn't work well with my work attire (dresses, hose and heels) because the placement is not specific enough. Sports attire (sports bra's, leggings) or jeans/pants/slacks and some type of laced shoe may be for appropriate for tracking with the SPARK.

At this point I'm more inclined to use the FITBIT ZIp during the week... it's just easier for me. However, my WALKTOBER challenge members may miss the extra steps I've been getting in during this reviewing period =)

I'll be back with tomorrow Wednesday's review and final readings.

I know with the spark tracker you have to have 10 minutes of continuous activity or it does not count the steps.

I love my fitbit. I wear it all over, every day. I also have the zip and find it really easy. I wear it on the treadmill if the weather is bad outside. It doesn't line up with the treadmill but I don't care. As long as I'm tracking, I'm moving. Whatever you chose, good luck!

Personally for walking and in general walking I would go for the Fitbit. I had a Zip and just upgrade to the One. Fitbit is more for walk/run. If that's what you do most of the time it might be more useful to keep the Fitbit unless your keeping both. Some people say Heart Rate Moniters are good for work outs and some are waterproof.

You are not the only one to notice a discrepancy. I do not have either a FitBit nor a SPAT, but have seen lots of comments saying the same thing as you've said.

    Good luck!

it's interesting to analyse these trackers. I have a vivosmart (Garmin) and a FitBit. The Vivo I wear on the wrist, the Fitbit on my waist. The Vivo is usually about 2K steps ahead of FitBit. I also find that when I ride bike - my fitbit does not track the steps as quickly as when I just walk/run. I've not compared the Vivo & FB yet for bike riding.
