My Battle with Weight

Saturday, November 01, 2014

I've been heavy my whole life and I'm sick of it. My mother and I were members of Weight Watchers and TOPS (Take off pounds sensibly) when I was in my late teen years and lost a little weight but it was a struggle and we gained the weight back.

I also have a hypo-active thyroid disorder which slows my metabolism doesn't help the weight loss at all. I would follow a strict diet and watch every calorie and drink the 8 glasses of water and still gain weight. I gave up on dieting for a long time. I go for thyroid tests every few months to see if my levels are in a proper range but its only happened one in my life. That balance made me loose weight rapidly and I lost 100 pounds in less than a year! But when my thyroid went out of balance again, I gained all that weight plus. Very depressing.

My "wake-up call" was a couple months ago when my mother's doctor told her that if she didn't do something to lose weight and get her diabetes under control then she will have her legs amputated within 10 years! We all went on diets a couple days later.

I hope my story eventually ends in this mythical "Onederland".

Congratulations on making the first step of your journey. This site is pretty freaking awesome. Take some time to investigate it -- even if the area seems like something you might not have interest in. You will be amazed. There are recipe calorie calculators, distance trackers using Google maps, videos, articles, motivational memes, etc. The best, most unbelievable part is that it is FREE! There are things here that you can pay extra for... but the free stuff will keep you busy enough. Use what is here... and use it EVERYDAY for continued success.

I read this motivational quote last night -- I think it is perfect for you:

"The starting point of all achievement is desire." ~Napolean Hill
