almost 40

Friday, November 21, 2014

I had wanted to be skinny by the time I was 40. I logged in this morning for the first time in almost a year. To my great surprise I have lost 6 pounds this year. Big deal, 6 pounds in a year, but you know what? That is 6 pounds lost, not gained!
I just got busy with life. Then my laptop died. Then I filed for divorce.
The divorce is a great thing! No more dinner at 6 just because it's 6. When I do feel like dinner it is usually just what I want to eat and not a full sit down meal. I went 3 days without meat, just because I didn’t feel like it.
When I dropped the majority of the weight a few years ago, I remember how I was accused of losing weight for another man. How ridiculous. I was 267 pounds with a cholesterol of 255. We had that argument several more times. My soon to be ex would try to do nice things for me like buy me chocolate and pick up ice cream when he was at the grocery store. There were always Doritos and potato chips in the house. When he moved out, I made him take the deep fryer with him.
I may not be skinny by the time I am 40 but I will no longer be obese, just overweight. I have 4 pounds to go and 16 days to do it in. And I will keep going!

Congrats on sticking to it. That's the best we can do when life gets in the way. Get back up and stay the course we set out for ourselves.

Congrats on the weight loss. Most of us would have gained that 6 lbs. and then some going through the decision to file for divorce. There's something to be said for the feeling of taking control of your destiny.
