Help!

It's ANOTHER New Year, I'm still Sparking; but I'm searching for the matches to relight the fire! I joined a 'healthy lifestyle' group about a year ago, took on a lot of information which didn't really apply to me and found I was eating fewer calories than ever, although healthier choices. Does anyone with experience out there have some wise advice to share? I'm middle-aged-ish, working hard with a family and study. Things can get stressful, then I'm not hungry. I tend to eat about 1000 cals a day, regardless of the type of food. I've topped that up with nuts and seeds recently to see if I can find some energy to exercise.
A good description of my body would be 'chunky' and I carry my weight around my waistline. I have what is described as an 'apple' shape with big top half.
What do I do? Eat more to get energy, then get exercising to tone up?

Strength training and aerobic exercise go hand-in-hand to help you tone and whittle your middle. strength training gives you a stronger core, resulting in a more toned look, better posture and continued calorie-burning. Proper crunches, Pilates and yoga all help to improve your core muscles.

    Step 5 Apple-shaped individuals are more prone to heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer. All three disorders list overweight or obesity as a risk factor. Be sure to make an appointment with your primary doctor to keep a watch over your health.
